International learning as Australian nurse visits UK hospice

Categories: Education.

Una Kelleher, who was born in Ireland but now lives in Australia, travelled to St Catherine’s Hospice on the Brian Gillies Scholarship.

Una has worked on the palliative care ward at Cabrini Hospital in Melbourne for the past year and a half, after completing her training and then working at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

This year she was picked for the $10,000 (£5,440) scholarship – an award designed to promote palliative care research and collaborative work, which will be handed out for the next five years.

It saw her spend two and a half weeks in the UK and Ireland working at different hospices including St Catherine’s in Lostock Hall, where she gathered information and experiences to feed back to the Australian hospital where she works.
