Marathon runners to raise money for Hospis Malaysia

Hospis Malaysia offers free palliative care services to patients within Klang Valley.

In a recent article published by The Star, palliative care nurse, Thow Meai Jiun, explains what her work at the hospice involves: “We educate our patients and their families about their health situations, answer any questions they may have and provide the support they need to improve their quality of life.”

“It is all about making the most out of life for as long as the patients have it,” adds Hospis Malaysia general manager, Tham Su Ming.

Hospis Malaysia’s services are largely funded by donations and contributions from the public and corporate sector. With operating expenses around RM3 million a year ($1 million US), it is great news that the charity is to benefit from the annual Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014.

As the marathon coincides with the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day on 12 October, Hospis Malaysia will be using this opportunity to spread the word on palliative care and the work done by the people behind the organisation.
