According to The Straits Times, 1,800 people signed an Advance Medical Directive last year, up from 500 a decade ago. And more than 2,500 people applied for the Lasting Power of Attorney last year, compared to 655 people three years ago.
The article suggests that the rise can be attributed to greater awareness of these documents, and increasing ease and affordability of applying for them.
Training of doctors – who then encourage their patients to plan early – may also have had an affect.
