Palliative Care developments in Sri Lanka

Categories: Education.

The India edition of ehospice reports that demonstration projects on Community Based Palliative care have been set up in three districts in Sri Lanka.

The service is being developed with the help of the Neighbourhood Network in Palliative Care in Kerala working in collaboration with Sri Lanka’s National Cancer Control Programme.

Sri Lanka is also launching the first ever course in Palliative Care for professionals with the support of Institute of Palliative Medicine, India. The course, for up to 50 doctors, is planned to take place in November.

As the country’s palliative care development goes from strength to strength,  Sri Lanka will be celebrating World Hospice and Palliative Care Day this year.

The National Cancer Control Programme with the Sri Lankan Medical Association and other civil society organisations will join to organise events in Colombo.
