The congress, to be held in Porto de Galinhas, Pernambuco, Brazil from 9 to 12 October 2013, coincides with World Hospice and Palliative Care Day on 12 October 2013.
The four-day congress will include courses, lectures, panels, discussions and plenary sessions. The theme of the congress will be ‘Palliative Care for All: Building and Extending Assistance Networks’ and will focus on universal health care and widening access to palliative care.
Confirmed speakers include Sheila Payne, president of the European Association for Palliative Care, José Pereira, director of the Palliative Care Service at the Hospital of Ottawa (Canada) and Nigel Sykes, director of St Christopher’s Hospice (UK).
The Second Lusophone Palliative Care Congress takes place at the same time, and is an initiative of the ANCP, the Portuguese Association of Palliative Care (Associação Portuguesa de Cuidados Paliativo) and the African Palliative Care Association (APCA). The first Lusophone Palliative Care congress was held last year in Porto, Portugal.
