Categories: Education.

There were 23 trainees attending the workshop, of which seven were working in Kuwait and 16 coming from 10 other Arab countries.

The training was kindly organised and funded by Kuwait Ministry of Health and the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean region.

It was a multi-disciplinary workshop and included practical sessions and patients’ clerking. Speakers came from several Arab countries, as well as Canada, India and Ireland.

Dr Khalid Saleh succeeded in having the Ministry of Health and the Gulf Federation for Cancer Control fully on board to support training in palliative care for the Arab region. He also developed a concrete plan for palliative care services in the Gulf countries.

Under Dr Saleh’s leadership, the Palliative Care Centre in Kuwait has become a model of service provision and training in the region.
