Starting today, NHF is inviting provider members of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) to apply to become part of the inaugural year of the Lighthouse of Hope Fund.
The Lighthouse of Hope Fund is intended to support “experiences for the living.” Examples include: flying people in to visit, special events like fishing trips or special dinners, and other opportunities for patients to spend quality time with family and friends.
“We know many of the ways hospice improves quality of life for patients and family caregivers through skilled interdisciplinary care, our new Lighthouse of Hope program will allow hospices to add another dimension to the services they provide some of the families they are caring for,” said John Mastrojohn, NHF executive director.
The first 100 hospices to sign a participant agreement and make a $500 donation to the Fund will be eligible to request up to $1,500 in total requests on behalf of their patients by December 31, 2013. Hospices interested in learning more and applying should visit the Lighthouse of Hope Fund website.
The seed funding for the Lighthouse of Hope Fund came from the assets of the Lighthouse Foundation, which were generously designated to NHF in mid-2012 when the parent hospice of the Lighthouse Foundation was purchased. Additional funds will be added to the Lighthouse of Hope Fund through annual fees of participating hospices, and the generous contributions of individuals, corporations and foundations. Online donations are encouraged.
