Today at the 7th World Innovation Summit on Health (WISH) palliative care is one of the themes of the meeting. Our session is on “Palliative Care: How can we respond to ten years of limited progress?”
Only 14 percent of global palliative care needs are currently being met based on the WHPCA/WHO Global Atlas of Palliative Care. Despite the 2014 World Health Assembly Resolution 67.19, progress has been slow, and we are no closer to making palliative care an essential component of universal health coverage. The report presents evidence of palliative care interventions and delivery, demonstrating what can be achieved through targeted efforts framed around the new WHO model for palliative care development.
