Rev. Paul Scaglione, a Roman Catholic priest has written the book: “The Spiritual Lives of Dying People: Testimonies of Hope and Courage.” The book relates the deaths of 15 people, including his brother’s, and is intended to help others heal.

10th anniversary of ESMO Designated Centres program to improve palliative care services

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Designated Centres of Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care programme. The addition of four new countries from across the globe in 2013 highlights the growing importance of palliative care in cancer treatment worldwide. ESMO will announce the new and reaccredited centres during the 17th ECCO – 38th ESMO – 32nd ESTRO European Cancer Congress (ECC2013), 27 September–1 October in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Hospice Africa Uganda 20th Birthday Thanksgiving Ceremony

Monday 23 September 2013 marked the 20th birthday thanksgiving ceremony of Hospice Africa Uganda. During the same occasion, HAU will honor Fr. Brendan Jordan of Mill Hill Fathers, who was a spiritual adviser to the Hospice team from 2007 to 2013. The building for the Centre of Excellence in Palliative Care for Clinical and Administrative services of Hospice will be renamed Fr. Brendan House.

Phone app offers ‘verbal autopsies’ to improve death records

A new cell phone app has been developed to cut down on paper-based health records. The app, currently being tested in Malawi, will help collect information on the details of illness and death, allowing authorities to plan for health in their country. 

Chance for people to sing and raise money for hospice

St Luke’s Hospice in London will be taking part in the concerts all over the world to raise funds and awareness for hospice care as part of Voices for Hospices on Saturday October 19.
