The Africa Hospice Adventure solo motor bike has finally made its way to Kenya after a series of rides across Europe and the North African region.
This is part of the epic journey being made by Russell Johns through two continents to link up hospices, raise money, and create awareness for North Devon Hospice.
His journey started in Europe through to Turkey and the second part that started in Egypt has seen him arrive in Kenya enroute to Cape Town.
Over the last few days, Russel has made the famous crossing through South Ethiopia and Northern Kenya for a safe arrival in Nairobi, Kenya after making a stop at Nyeri Hospice.
“The Marsabit road is the main hurdle for overlander trips, and famous for breaking rear shocks on BMW bikes! I had to weigh up breaking the bike against time and costs to fix it in Nairobi and opted to truck the bike the 267km from Moyale to Marsabit before riding to the new tarmac road. Trucking a bike was interesting! 14hr trip, average speed 20kmh!” Russel says.
Russel adds that Nyeri Hospice is an amazing hospice, with great facilities and care program. They run a comprehensive home visit program and day clinic. It is well funded through local and international sponsors and have a very active local fundraising campaign.
Each country he rides through, he will be visiting a local hospice spending the day with them learning about the work they do and meeting the people they care for.
Russel intends to visit a few hospices in Kenya before proceeding with his journey to Cape Town.
