Hospice Week is a national event which is included in the national Government health calendar and will be celebrated from the 5 to 12 May 2013. The main objective behind this is to give hospices the opportunity to raise awareness of palliative care through various activities such as concerts, open days and to highlight their essential services, which are provided regardless of race, culture, age or ability to pay.
HPCA staff did just this by kick starting off this weeks activities by wearing crazy hats, walking around our local community and raising awareness. Despite the windy conditions and high heels worn by some of the ladies – everyone was excited to take part in this activity. We defnitely attracted the attention of motorists as we walked down the street and made our way to the local shopping mall where people stopped and asked what this was all about. That is exactly what this day was about – to share what Hospice Week is all about!
We would like to encourage hospices to please share their activities and send this details to eric@hpca.co.za
