More than 2,400 people took to Blackpool’s promenade to take their place in the Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run. And organisers have revealed that the event, which has been taking place along a traffic-free prom for over 40 years, has raised the most ever for Trinity Hospice – more than £100,000.
With more sponsorship coming in, the hospice expects the total to rise over the coming weeks.
The annual event sees runners setting off from outside The Savoy, down to Blackpool Pleasure Beach at back again, and attracts serious runners, fun runners and novice 10k-ers all striving to achieve a fantastic running time while supporting local hospice care for the Fylde coast.
Trinity’s Events Manager, Kayleigh Penn, said: “Once again, our Fun Run event proved incredibly popular, with over 2,200 people signing up in advance of Sunday, and another couple of hundred people signing up on the day
“Each and every one of them put in a massive effort before crossing the finishing line, and we love to see the smiles on people’s faces as they collect their well-earned medal knowing they’ve done something amazing for such an important local charity.

“We’re absolutely thrilled that our runners have put as much effort into their fundraising as they have their training. And to have raised more than we did at last year’s event means so much to our hospice. Thanks to our runners, we could run our entire In-patient Unit for 11 full days and nights. That’s incredible.
“As our first major event of the year, our Fun Run truly has launched a season of fun, challenging and meaningful events for our community to take part in.
“A huge thank you to our event sponsors, Beaverbrooks, to the wonderful volunteer marshals who helped to keep this event safe and to every single runner who showed up, gave it their all and raised such a fantastic amount so that everyone who needs hospice care in Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre can get it.”
The hospice’s next major event is the Beaverbrooks Bike Ride, which takes place on Sunday 14th June. With several routes available spanning a family-friendly five-mile to a challenging 60-mile, it’s the perfect way to support hospice care on two wheels.
