Princess Alice Hospice’s Community Choir hits the perfect note with their fundraising

Categories: Community Engagement and Fundraising.

The Hospice’s Community Choir was set up ten years ago after receiving a generous donation from a family member of someone they cared for. The request was made that the money be put towards creating a choir, to promote singing for wellbeing.

Since then, the Choir has gone from strength to strength and now performs at least three times a year to raise vital funds for the Hospice.

The Choir welcomes bereaved family members, carers, patients, staff, volunteers, families and friends, and members of the local community, and sings at the Hospice during term time on Mondays at 6.00pm.

To mark their 10-year anniversary, they set about raising £10,000 in their tenth year. So far, they’re delighted to have raised £12,864.45, with donations from their most recent concert still continuing.

Lesley Munro, Deputy CEO and Director of Patient Care and Communities, thanked the Choir: “What a wonderful achievement, they should be so proud. Singing in a choir is a great way to make friends, build confidence and generally boost those feelings of wellbeing and our Community Choir is no different – they’re great!”

The no-audition choir will continue to sing and raise funds for the Hospice. Later this year, they will be performing at our annual Light up a Life Service of Remembrance. To find out more, please contact 01372 461 862 or CN@pah.org.uk. No experience or special musical skills are necessary.

Princess Alice Hospice: For Excellence. For Compassion. For People. For Living.

For nearly 40 years, Princess Alice Hospice has provided free, high-quality, specialist end-of-life care to tens of thousands of people across a large part of Surrey, south west London and Middlesex. Today, Hospice nurses, doctors and other specialist staff are looking after over 1000 patients at any one time, in their homes or on the In-Patient Unit.

The Hospice’s mission is to reach even more people by delivering outstanding care to those who need it. To enable us to do this, we rely on the commitment and kind support of our communities who help us to raise vital funds.

Each year, it costs £11.5 million to provide our free, vital services. With just 20% of NHS funding provided, the remaining 80% is raised through legacies, fundraising, selling pre-loved items in our shops, and investments. It is the amazing support of our generous supporters and dedicated volunteers that allows our work to continue.
