The theme of this year’s week is ‘making every moment count’, emphasising that time is precious for families who care for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
Together for Short Lives will be encouraging people to share important moments on social media throughout the week using #momentscount.
The overall aim of the week is threefold:
- to increase awareness of what life is like for families who care for children with life-limiting illnesses
- to improve the public’s understanding of what services are on offer to families
- to raise funds for children’s palliative care services.
There are currently 53 children’s hospices in the UK, all of which are charities and rely on public support. Together for Short Lives emphasises that children’s hospices are “bright and happy places focussing on helping families make the most of every moment.”
