Dedicate a Sunflower to a loved one in aid of Heart of Kent Hospice

Categories: Care and Fundraising.

Heart of Kent Hospice launches its 2024 Sunflower Appeal with three remembrance events to bring the Maidstone community together to remember and celebrate loved ones.

The Heart of Kent Hospice ‘Sunflower Appeal’ will take place between 9 and 12 June in Magnolia Place and the adjoining hospice garden to give everyone the choice of sitting indoors or outdoors.

A printed remembrance card with poems and words of comfort will be available for everyone to take home.

Sunflowers with their bright yellow petals and tall green stems are a favourite in summer and anyone wishing to dedicate a wooden sunflower in memory of their loved one can write their name in the centre of the flower and either plant at home or in the hospice garden.  During the events refreshments will be served and a plant stall will be selling a selection of plants for your own garden.

The event is free, but you can choose to make a donation, knowing your kindness will be felt by others who are losing a person they love.

Funds raised will assist the Hospice in continuing to provide care through its drop-in services together with inpatient and home support including to families in the weeks and years following the loss of a loved one.

To reserve your place at one of the services and to dedicate a wooden sunflower in memory of a loved one, please contact Becky Stephens, In Memory and Regular Giving Executive. 01622 790195 becky.stephens@hokh.co.uk

Sylvia Rothschild, Spiritual Care Lead at the Hospice said “At Heart of Kent Hospice we are deeply aware of the power of memories.  We know that nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we are able to remember it. When we tell our stories about people we love, or of events that happened in our lives, we can revisit time and place, and we bring to life again those people we can no longer see or touch. The past does not die, but lives in our hearts and our minds, in the way we live our lives and in the stories we tell.

“This year we will once again have wooden sunflower memory markers, each one can be used to name a loved one as part of our remembrance event, and they can be displayed in the beautiful hospice garden or taken home for your own use.”

About Heart of Kent Hospice

www.hokh.org

Heart of Kent Hospice has been providing free, compassionate, end-of-life care to people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones in Maidstone, Aylesford, Tonbridge and Malling and the surrounding towns and villages for the past 33 years.

The Hospice has built an excellent reputation within the local community for the quality of its care, which has been further endorsed by the Care Quality Commission who awarded us with an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’ following an inspection in February 2017.

Our vision is for everyone living with a terminal illness in our community to achieve the best quality of life. We are committed to achieving this by enabling them to live in comfort, with independence and dignity to the end of their lives, and to support those closest to them.

Last year the Hospice cared for over 1,900 patients and their families in their own homes or at our Aylesford-based Hospice. Our charity needs to raise £6 million to deliver all the Hospices services, and we depend heavily on our loyal community of supporters, whose generous donations and fundraising activities raise money for us every year.
