Dying to Talk conferences to encourage conversations about the end of life

Categories: Community Engagement.

The conferences, which are to be hosted by Minister for Health and Social Services, Mark Drakeford AC, aim to equip delegates with information about how to have conversations about planning for death with those they meet or see on a regular basis.

The first event will also see the official launch of a ‘Dying Matters Coalition in Wales’, aimed at encouraging groups, the public and volunteers to work together to discuss end of life issues.

Dying Matter Wales was first announced in April last year, as part of the three-year plan for improving end of life care in Wales – ‘Together for health – delivering end of life care‘.

At both conferences a number of workshops are also being held, which will cover subjects such as: talking to people about care at the end of life, end of life care for children, advance decisions, the Do Not Attempt Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation (DNACPR) Policy for Wales and conversations about escalation of treatment and the appropriateness of critical care.

The first conference is being held on Tuesday 13 May in Cardiff, and the second in Llandudno on Thursday 29 May.

There are 120 places available at each venue and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Requests to attend either event must be received by Monday 14 April 2014.
