With the incredibly sad news from Scottish comedian Janey Godley that she is on end of life care, Strathcarron Hospice is grateful that she is bringing open discussion on death and dying.
Strathcarron Hospice staff member Katy Whitelaw, joined a phone-in with Stephen Jardine on BBC Radio Scotland where Janey’s announcement and topics around end of life were being discussed.
Katy Whitelaw, Communications Officer, Strathcarron Hospice said, “We were delighted to be part of these discussions, encouraging people to have these difficult, but so important conversations as early as possible, before it is too late.
Preparing for the future is an act of love and consideration, especially during times that are emotionally challenging.
Our ‘All About Me’ booklet which we highlighted on BBC Radio Scotland can help with these conversations, and help capture important details too. This useful resource aims to provide guidance and support for individuals and their families as they navigate this difficult journey”.
The Strathcarron Compassionate Communities team and people from the communities of Forth Valley co-produced the All About Me booklet. This helpful booklet enables you to record and find important information about your life, without having to sort through file after file.
Designed to help document your wishes and preferences, including funeral arrangements and other important details, it can offer peace of mind.
By having these conversations, as someone living with a life limiting condition, it ensures that your voice is heard during a time when clarity and guidance are most valuable, easing the burden for your loved ones during an emotional time
‘All About Me’ enables you to record and find important information about your (or a family or friend) life, without having to sort through file after file. This can let people know your wishes about such things as funeral arrangements and obituary. You can also record your thoughts about loved ones, as well as make peace with family and friends.

About Strathcarron Hospice
We support people across Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth living with a life limiting condition. We help to make every moment count for patients and their families, so that they can live well with their illness and make the most of the time they have, and when the time comes, to die well.
Strathcarron Hospice needs to raise around £102,000 a week to provide all their services, which are free to those who use them across our local communities.
As well as In- Patient and Hospice at Home care, our highly skilled multidisciplinary teams include Nursing teams, Patient and Family Support (social work), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacist, Chaplains, Complementary Therapists, Consultants in Palliative Medicine and Specialty Doctors.
As a charity, Strathcarron Hospice is funded by the people we serve. They walk, run, cycle, jump, bake and go to many other amazing efforts to fundraise for their local Hospice. Strathcarron simply cannot continue delivering our valuable services free of charge, without the ongoing support of our communities.
With only one third of our hospice funded by the Government, we are incredibly grateful to our generous supporters who make up the significant shortfall.
