Over a dozen nurses specialising in end of life care and caring for patients with life-limiting conditions have been recognised for their “outstanding” contributions in 2018.
The clinicians are featured on a list of a hundred nurses from all disciplines and across all levels who have been nominated by their colleagues on Twitter using #100OutstandingNurses.
Among the nominees are Sue Varvel, Director of Nursing and Clinical Services at Rennie Grove Hospice in Hertfordshire, Karen Andrews, Head of Nursing for Macmillan and End of Life Services at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital, and Lynda McNab, Dementia Lead Nurse at Barts Trust in London.
Laura Burns, sister and ward manager at Antrim Area Hospital in Northern Ireland who died suddenly in December after developing a migraine, has also been nominated by her peers.
The end of year list is an initiative of WeNurses, a Twitter-based weekly discussion forum for nurses to share ideas and information that currently has almost 80,000 followers. Tweetchats take place every Thursday at 8pm.
