The competition was run by Good Life, Good Death, Good Grief as part of the Luminate Festival of Creative Ageing and the inaugural To Absent Friends festival.
Held for the first time from 1 to 7 November 2014, To Absent Friends gave people across Scotland an excuse to remember, to tell stories, to celebrate and to reminisce about people we love who have died. The festival will take place across Scotland again next year, from 1 to 7 November 2015.
Winning entries from the Essence of a Memory competition were displayed at the Marie Curie Hospice in Glasgow as part of the festival. You can see the seven winning entries here, or view all the entries on the To Absent Friends website.
