Five good reasons to attend the ICPCN conference

Categories: Education.

For those planning on registering for the ICPCN India 2014 Conference to take place in Mumbai, India from 10 – 12 February, 2014, there are only days to go to register at the Early Bird rates. Registration fees have been kept as low as possible and are graded according to the income status of your country of residence and your profession.

If you have not yet made up your mind, here are five good reasons for you to join us:

1. Top class speakers

This conference boasts a stellar line-up of plenary speakers who are all known experts in the field of children’s palliative care and each will be presenting on topical issues. Sister Frances Dominica, founder of the modern children’s hospice movement, is our keynote speaker. Dr Stephen Liben from Canada will be talking about Mindfulness and Care for the Caregiver and Dr James Cleary on access to medications. Other plenary speakers include Prof Myra Bluebond-Langner, Dr Richard Hain, Dr Rut Kiman and Prof Maryann Muckaden.

2. An excellent programme

The stimulating variety of abstracts received has enabled the Scientific Committee to assemble a programme sure to have something for every taste and interest. The only difficulty will be in deciding which track to attend.

Applied Workshops Throughout the conference there are several ‘applied workshops’ – these workshops will apply what is being discussed to our own situations through a mixture of presentations and interactive workshops. Participants who attend all parts of an applied workshop will get a separate certificate to say that they have participated in these applied workshops. They are as follows:

  1. Applied workshop on Advocacy parts 1, 2 and 3
  2. Applied workshop on Leadership parts 1 and 2
  3. Applied workshop on Pain parts 1, 2 and 3
  4. Applied workshop on Research
  5. Applied workshop on Communication and Spirituality parts 1 and 2
  6. Applied workshop on Education

Pre-conference workshops: Three pre-conference workshops have also been organised to take place on Sunday 9 February. These focus on an introduction to children’s palliative care as well as pain and symptom management for doctors and pharmacists.

A draft conference programme can be downloaded from the ICPCN website.

3. Extraordinary networking opportunities

Abstract submissions and registrations for the conference have come from over 30 different countries and from all corners of the globe. The conference will provide you with excellent opportunities to find out what is happening around the world. You cannot help but be enriched by the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

4. An enthralling and enriching cultural experience

A visit to India is on the ‘bucket list’ of many and what better opportunity to experience first-hand the rich and exotic cultural heritage of this country. Delegates will be entertained by Indian dancers and singers and the registration fees include attendance at the formal dinner with the theme “An Indian Wedding” which includes experiencing wedding rituals; the showing of how to wear a sari; putting on a turban and wedding henna tattoos for all lady guests. There will also be entertainment and an Indian Wedding Feast.

5. Day trips for tourists

Once the conference is over (we wouldn’t want you to miss out on anything at the conference) why not enjoy a few days as a tourist in this beautiful city. Conference organisers, Cox and King, have arranged a number of outings and day trips that you can enjoy. These include city tours of Mumbai, night ride to Victoria, excursions to Juhu beach and the Elephanta Caves as well as a tour of Bollywood.
