People across the UK are invited to explore ideas from around the world across health, education, technology, the environment, the arts and civic life
Applications for 2027 Churchill Fellowships open on 1 September 2026, giving UK citizens the chance to explore ideas and approaches from around the world and turn that learning into practical action in the UK. A new Civic and Democratic Engagement programme will support people with ideas for strengthening participation, trust, and engagement in public life. It joins programmes including Tech for All; Promoting Lifelong Health; Supporting Engagement in Education, Climate Change; Caring for our Natural Environment; Building a Society that Cares; Building Prosperous, Resilient Economies; and Making Space for the Arts. Each year, the charity funds more than 100 people to spend four to eight weeks learning from leading practitioners worldwide, in person or online. Through their Fellowships, they build international networks, exchange knowledge, and gather practical ideas. They then use this learning to help improve communities, services, and policy across the UK. Julia Weston, Chief Executive of the Churchill Fellowship, said: “Every year we are inspired by people who see something that could work better and are determined to do something about it. A Churchill Fellowship gives them the chance to look outwards, learn from others, and turn those ideas into practical action here in the UK. “This year’s programmes reflect many of the challenges and opportunities communities are facing now, and we hope people from the widest range of backgrounds, personal and life experiences, and from across the four nations will see something here that speaks to their own experience and ideas for change.” Key facts

They meet leading practitioners, engage with cutting-edge projects and then collate their findings and recommendations. The Churchill Fellowship then provides support to help them to share their insights with communities and sectors across the UK and turn their ideas into action. The international research can be undertaken through travel or online and Fellows are encouraged to carefully consider their carbon footprint. Churchill Fellowships are open to all adult UK citizens, regardless of qualifications, background or age. Set up in 1965 as the living legacy of Sir Winston Churchill for the nation, the Churchill Fellowship is the operating name of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, registered charity number 313952. |
