Gloria Hunniford and Merrill Powell
TV presenter Gloria Hunniford, former Conservative Party leader and Hospice UK Vice President, the Rt. Hon Lord Howard of Lympne and his wife Lady Sandra Howard, and actress Richendra Carey were among the guests at a Gala Dinner to mark Hospice UK’s 35th anniversary.
The event – held at The Savoy Hotel in central London – celebrated the difference that hospice care has made to the lives of so many people with life-limiting conditions and their families over the last three and half decades. It also looked ahead to the increasing role that hospice care will need to play in the future to support the needs of more people living for longer with complex health conditions.
The evening, which was organised by Merrill Powell, Chair of the London Fundraising Committee, kicked off with a champagne reception, followed by a three-course meal with wine, live entertainment and a silent auction.
Prizes on offer included the chance to see superstar songstress Ariana Grande in concert, a week’s holiday in a villa in Portugal, an overnight stay for two at luxury health spa resort Champneys, and dinner for four at Mosimann’s Club, one of the most prestigious dining clubs in the world.
Catherine Bosworth, Director of Income Generation at Hospice UK, said:
“Our gala dinner was an evening of glamour and glitz and the silent auction proved to be a big hit with our guests.
“We were delighted to hold this event to celebrate the extraordinary care provided by hospices across the UK to people with life-limiting conditions and their families. We are so grateful to Merrill Powell and the rest of the London Fundraising Committee for all their hard work in helping us to organise this fantastic event.”
The event raised a total of £85K, which will go towards the work of Hospice UK supporting hospices the UK.
