Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell House achieve CQC milestone

Categories: Care.

Harlington Hospice is celebrating a major milestone after all of its CQC-regulated services, including Michael Sobell House, are now rated Good.

The achievement follows the publication of the Care Quality Commission’s latest inspection report for Michael Sobell House on 14 July 2026, which awarded the inpatient hospice an overall rating of Good. The result builds on the Good rating achieved by Harlington Hospice’s services at Lansdowne House, published on 21 April 2026, while Harlington Care, the charity’s home care service, continues to maintain its Good rating.

Together, the inspections mean that every CQC-regulated service delivered by Harlington Hospice is now recognised as providing Good quality care for local people and their families.

Over recent years, Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell House have come together as one organisation, combining the strengths, expertise and heritage of both services to create a stronger and more sustainable future for hospice care across Hillingdon.

Michael Sobell House remains the charity’s specialist inpatient hospice and a much-loved part of the community.

The latest inspection highlighted the strength of leadership at Michael Sobell House, a culture of learning and continuous improvement, and the way teams work closely with patients, families and healthcare partners. Inspectors also recognised examples of innovative practice, inclusive leadership and a clear commitment to continually improving the experience of those receiving care.

For Harlington Hospice, quality is about far more than inspection ratings. It is about ensuring every person receives compassionate, personalised care that respects their wishes, values and priorities.

Whether someone is receiving care at Michael Sobell House, attending services at Lansdowne House, being supported at home through Harlington Care, or accessing wider wellbeing and support services, the focus remains the same: helping people live as well as possible, for as long as possible.

Jane Wheeler, Chief Executive of Harlington Hospice, said:

“This is a hugely significant moment for Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell House. Over the last few years, we have worked hard to bring our organisations together, building on the strengths and proud histories of both while investing in our people, services and culture.

“To have every one of our CQC-regulated services rated Good is a fantastic achievement and reflects the dedication, compassion and professionalism of our staff and volunteers across every part of the organisation.

“I am incredibly proud of our outstanding teams, who go above and beyond every single day to provide compassionate, person-centred care for patients and their families. I am especially pleased that, alongside these Good ratings, the CQC recognised several aspects of our work as examples of exceptional practice. Their recognition of our compassionate and inclusive leadership, our culture of innovation and continuous improvement, and our commitment to delivering the very best experience for the people we care for is a wonderful testament to the dedication of everyone across Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell House.

“These achievements belong to every member of our team, our volunteers, supporters, healthcare partners and our local community, whose ongoing support enables Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell House to continue providing outstanding hospice care for local people.”

As a local charity, Harlington Hospice relies on the support of the community to continue providing specialist hospice care, free of charge, for local people and their families. Every donation, volunteer, fundraiser and supporter helps sustain services at Michael Sobell House, Lansdowne House and in the community, ensuring compassionate hospice care remains available to those who need it most.

Jane added:

“Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell House belong to our community. We are here because local people support us, and this achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished when a community comes together behind a shared purpose. We remain committed to continually improving our services and ensuring that hospice care is available for future generations.”
