The Hospice Biographers debut radio show was broadcast this week on new internet station 199radio.
The charity trains specialist volunteers to visit hospices up and down the UK and record the life stories of patients. Their new monthly talk and music show celebrates the lives of the patients and the exceptional work of staff and volunteers.
Presented by Hospice Biographers’ founder Barbara Altounyan and Suzanne Wallace, former Superintendent with the Met police and a day care patient at Princess Alice Hospice in Surrey, the first show ‘We Remember Lives’ featured Dr Ros Taylor MBE as a special guest. Dr Taylor is a palliative physician at London’s Royal Marsden Hospital and joint editor of the European Journal of Palliative Care. Other guests included legacy and will expert Helena Luckhurst from legal firm Fladgate Law, and chief executive of Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge, Stevan Jackson.
The next show airs on September 25 between 2 – 4pm, and will feature an interview with Lord Howard of Lympne, the outgoing chair of Hospice UK, and Hospice Biographers’ trustee Lorraine Crossland, who designed the charity’s training course. The course prepares volunteers to record patients’ life stories covering aspects such as privacy, safeguarding, compliance and GDPR.
The Hospice Biographers are welcoming ideas for the next show, and would particularly like to hear from:
- Hospices that are doing something extraordinary
- Staff who have recently achieved an award for excellence
- Hospices engaged with outreach projects with prisoners, homeless, Travellers, young mums or dads
- Patients who would like to talk on air and select a particular piece of music for a loved one who lives in the UK or anywhere in the world
- Hospices that have already been trained by the Hospice Biographers charity
- Anyone with something to share with listeners about their important work for The Hospice Biographers charity
To appear on the September show, contact Barbara Altounyan by September 18.
The shows are made available for streaming three days after broadcast on the 199radio Mixcloud page. For more information visit The Hospice Biographers
