22 dedicated Prospect Hospice supporters have undertaken the ultimate adventure – a nine-day trek along one of the world’s most iconic landmarks, the Great Wall of China. The group set off from the hospice in Wroughton on Saturday 11 October, having raised an incredible £73,000 so far to support local hospice care.
The challenge included a demanding five-day trek across both restored and wild sections of the wall, testing participants’ stamina as they explore steep ascents, rugged terrain and breathtaking scenery.
The adventure concluded with a visit to Beijing, including two of its most famous attractions; the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.
Jeremy Lune, Chief Executive of Prospect Hospice, said: “We’re so proud of our amazing supporters for taking on such an extraordinary challenge. Every step they take helps ensure that we can continue providing specialist care and support to people in our community living with life-limiting illnesses. During the journey, participants walked not only on the wall itself, meticulously built and restored over thousands of years, but also through wild and remote landscapes with distant views of rolling hills and mountain peaks, with one of the great wonders of the world as their constant backdrop.
One of the trekkers, Karma, added: “This was the experience of a lifetime. It was tough, emotional and inspiring in equal measure. Trekking through remote hills and along the Great Wall with such an amazing group, all raising funds for a cause close to our hearts, has been unforgettable.”
