Hundreds step out for Prospect Hospice Men’s Walk, raising over £80,000 for local care

Nearly 300 men came together for Prospect Hospice’s first-ever Men’s Walk to Support, raising over £80,000 (and counting) for local hospice care.  A total of 293 walkers took on the 8-mile route from the hospice in Wroughton to the Nigel Eady County Ground, creating a powerful show of community, connection and support for the patients and families cared for by the charity.

The event brought together men of all ages, many walking in memory of loved ones or to support friends and family who have relied on hospice care. Along the route, participants shared stories, supported one another and helped break down barriers around conversation and connection.
Jeremy Lune, CEO at Prospect Hospice, said: “We’re incredibly proud of everyone who took part in our first Men’s Walk to Support. To see nearly 300 men come together in this way was truly special. Not only have they raised an incredible amount for local hospice care, but they’ve also created space for connection and support, which is at the heart of what we do.”
The day was made possible thanks to the support of staff and volunteers, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and on the day to ensure everything ran smoothly, as well as those who came along to cheer walkers on at the start and finish.
Participant Steve Goodyear said: “It was an incredible day from start to finish. There was such a strong sense of camaraderie, and it meant a lot to be part of something that’s supporting such an important cause. I’d absolutely do it again next year.”
Funds raised from the event will help Prospect Hospice continue providing compassionate care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their families, across the local community.
