Chief Executive, Clare Gallie said, “We have been delighted with the response to our recruitment for two new trustees to join our Board.

Having specifically identified an opportunity to bring additional expertise in clinical, medical and HR into our charity, we are delighted to welcome Dr Jackie Dominey and Emma Starmer who both bring a wealth of talent to the organisation.

“Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is overjoyed to bring these two wonderful women on to its Board, they both come with so much knowledge and their incredible skillset will help guide the charity into the future, so that we can help even more people and continue providing extraordinary care in the community.”

Jackie spent 26 years as a GP Practice partner in Birmingham and a GP trainer from approximately 1996 until 2018. From 2004 until 2018 Jackie was a Hospice speciality doctor, which included teaching medical students and CMT doctors at Marie Curie Hospice West Midlands.

She also worked for 2 years at John Taylor Hospice in Erdington and as a Macmillan GP Advisor Midlands/Central South West England and GP clinical lead for end-of-life care Solihull CCG.

Jackie moved to Dorset and became a salaried GP in Bournemouth and also completed an 8-month limited contract post at Weldmar Hospice in Dorchester, working on the inpatient unit and teaching GP trainees who spent 3-months on the unit.

Jackie advised, “Getting involved as a volunteer trustee at Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is an opportunity to use my time, skills, energy and passion to make a real positive difference to peoples’ lives. I think that the work the hospice does is fantastic and vital.

Emma has worked at Bournemouth based solicitors, Lester Aldridge for over 25 years and has worked in a variety of HR and managerial roles, including holding the position of Head of HR for a number of years. She has experience across numerous areas of HR, which include employee relations, policy preparation and implementation, preparing employment contracts and handbooks for clients, settlement agreement work and providing HR related training.

Commenting on her new appointment Emma advised, “I am so impressed with the important work that Lewis-Manning, the Board of trustees, staff and volunteers have achieved for local people at the end of life across east Dorset and Purbeck and I am looking forward to being involved in the great plans for the future of this amazing charity.”

About Lewis-Manning Hospice Care

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care is in its 30th anniversary year, providing extraordinary care to patients and their loved ones facing a life-limiting illness across Poole, Purbeck and East Dorset. We offer a range of free hospice care services aimed at helping people to live well through their illness, closer to home. These include:

– Day hospices, virtual and in person

– Creative arts & wellbeing support

– Lymphoedema clinic

– Breathlessness clinic

– Bereavement & family support

– Complementary therapy

– Hospice at home

Every year we support nearly 500 local people and we develop new services, based on patient need and identified gaps in the area. To do this we need to raise over £2.3m every year. Without these funds we could not exist. Our important work increases people’s physical and social well-being, reduces isolation and loneliness, supports people to stay in their homes longer, and alleviates the huge pressures on family and carers.
