Light up a Life Service in Durham Cathedral – 17th December

Categories: Care and Fundraising.
Christmas is a time when we often reflect and remember the most special memories we have shared with those closest to us.

Whether you have taken part in the past or are hearing about it for the first time, our annual Light up a Life Service held at Durham Cathedral, is an opportunity for anyone in our community, whether they have a connection to the Hospice or not, to come together to remember and celebrate the lives of those we love.

One of our Volunteers, John Birch attends the service each year to remember his Dad:

“We remember the loved ones we have lost, probably every day in the little things we do and see. Coming up to Christmas, maybe we miss them just that little bit more. So it’s good to have a special event where we can collectively remember them.

The Light up a Life Service at Durham Cathedral gives us something very special. The music, singing, and the lighting together, create a perfect setting to remember them. I look forward to it every year and lighting a candle for Dad at the end of the service is a perfect way to end the evening.”

This years’ service will be held on Sunday 17th December at 7pm. Tickets are not required. By donating to the Hospice through Light up a Life, the name of your loved one will be included in our books of remembrance which will be dedicated at the service. You will also receive a personalised remembrance card and a special keepsake. The names of all those remembered will also be added to a special digital candles page on our website.
We do hope that you choose to remember someone special with us this Christmas. By remembering greatly missed friends and family, you will not only be celebrating their life, but you will also be helping us to support our patients and their families at a time they need it the most.
