James and Beth Duke from Swindon have written, produced, and sung their own Christmas song for Prospect Hospice – a local charity which provides care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
Beth wrote “Christmas in the Sky” with her father and decided to donate all the proceeds to Prospect Hospice, after nearly losing her father to cancer.
Beth’s father, James Duke said: “I collapsed in 2019 at work. I was then taken to the Great Western Hospital and diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and told I had days to live. During chemotherapy, my daughter Beth, and my son Owen, got very upset. I told them I would be ok and reassured them I would beat the cancer. I asked them what they would like to do when I was well again.”
“When dad asked me that, I knew I wanted to raise money for a charity,” said Beth, “I love music and singing and wanted to write a song with him. Following his treatment, we started writing ‘Christmas in the sky’ together which was a very special time for us both.”
James now works at Prospect Hospice in the distribution centre and saw what the charity does and how much they care for people living with terminal or life-limiting illnesses, so they decided to donate all the proceeds from their song to the hospice.
Sheryl Crouch, head of income at Prospect Hospice, added: “Every year Prospect Hospice supports hundreds of families across Swindon and the surrounding areas who are going through one of life’s hardest journeys. We want to be there to care for each and every person with a life-limiting illness who needs us.”
“That is why we are so grateful to Beth and James for all the hard work they have put in to writing and recording this song. The funds raised help Prospect Hospice to make a huge difference to the lives of hundreds of people and their loved ones every day. Thank you, Beth, and James.”
The money Beth and James raise will go towards Prospect Hospice’s vital services, such as the charity’s Inpatient Unit and Prospect@Home care service.
