Lymphoedema: How do we treat?

Categories: Care.

This course is aimed at community health care professionals from both Medical and Nursing professions.

With improved cancer treatments leading to longer survivorship, lymphoedema is an increasing side effect some patients are living with. Non Cancer related Lymphoedema is not widely recognised and often not managed well, which then increases the likelihood of infection, skin changes and reduced mobility due to large distorted limbs. This has an effect upon the whole of a person’s life – self-confi dence, body image, discomfort, social isolation to name but a few of the impacts.

Through attendance at this study day, it is hoped that staff will develop their skills in caring for those with lymphoedema and so be enabled to deliver improved holistic care within the community setting. This will enable more care to be delivered closer to home and minimise the disruption of this condition to the patient and their carers.
