What to expect
We are pleased to be offering more sessions than ever before. Our two-hour sessions each day from 11am – 1pm will focus on the following themes:
- Advance care planning
- Relationships, carers and bereavement
- Equity in end of life experience
- Physical health and wellbeing
- Financial security at the end of life
In the afternoons we will have spotlight sessions. These are one-hour, bitesize sessions designed to shine a light on topics that we know are areas of particular interest and importance in the sector. These include:
- Innovation in services
- Addressing support needs of staff
- Ambulance services and end of life care
- Supporting research in hospice and community settings
- Digital health
- PCRS: Tips for funding opportunities and applications
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Involving people with lived experience
- Palliative rehabilitation – staying independent
A certificate of attendance for CPD purposes can be requested (for a small administration fee) after the conference is over.
As part of the conference, we are pleased to announce two new awards which are open for nominations until 12pm on Tuesday 9 January 2024:
- The Clair Fisher Research Impact Award – to reward examples of palliative and end of life care research that have had notable impact on policy and/or practice.
- The Tammy Prescott Patient and Public Involvement Award – to reward best practice examples of involving people affected by dying, death and bereavement in research and policy work.
Why this conference is important:
The aim of our conference is to share the latest research and evidence in palliative and end of life care to improve the end of life experience for all.
We hope to inform and inspire attendees, to help change practice or shape future research.
We feel that the practical impact of research on policy and practice is just as important as the research itself and presenters are therefore encouraged to include key take home messages to facilitate this.
Who should attend?
Everyone with an interest in improving the end of life for all is welcome to attend, and we continue to keep registrations free. We were delighted that over 1700 people registered for our conference in 2023.
The conference has a growing international reach, in 2023 we saw people registering from 46 different countries.
Why virtual?
We continue to keep our conference virtual to enable more people, including researchers, practitioners and people with lived experience, to attend from across the UK and the globe. Feedback from the majority of attendees indicates that a virtual conference is the preferred format for convenience and accessibility.
The 2024 conference will be on a new platform, and we hope that it will enhance the experience of the conference for attendees. There will be more features, interactivity, and all sessions will be easily accessible on the platform.
