New programme invites nurses to develop economic assessment skills

Categories: Education.

The course is for up to 45 nurses in England who are currently leading service innovations and it is free to participate.

Funded by the Burdett Trust for Nursing, this is a rare opportunity for participants to learn to use economic evidence to demonstrate the value of nurse-led innovation.

The programme is endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), and upon completion of a monetised case study, participants are awarded an ILM certificate.

Who, what, where, when and how?

  • To be eligible for this programme you must currently be leading a service innovation but you do not need any formal experience of economic assessment to apply.
  • There is no charge to take part. However your employer must sponsor you and agree to give you time to undertake the programme and cover your travel costs.
  • The main part of the programme is six months in duration. It includes two day-long face to face learning sessions, one month apart, and one face to face tutorial two months after the second learning session.
  • The face to face sessions are complemented with virtual ‘light touch support’ throughout the six months provided by a specialist team at OPM.
  • It is anticipated that it will take up to 12 working days for you to complete the training, develop your case study and maximise its impact.

The programme is being rolled-out on a regional basis (by RCN region), and recruitment has already started for the South East and South West regions, with East of England region to follow shortly.

Visit the RCN website for further information and to find out how to apply.
