In the spirit of creativity and community, Scottish wordsmith Donna Ashworth visited Strathcarron Hospice on Monday 23rd December to deliver special Christmas cards to staff and patients collated through the Thistles Shopping Centre in Stirling.

Donna also kindly took time to give an inspirational memorable poetry reading to staff.
The Thistles have held a Christmas card drive for Strathcarron in partnership with Donna, focused on spreading cheer and uplifting those who may feel lonely during the holidays.
The Christmas cards, beautifully designed by pupils from St Bernadette’s RC Primary School in Stenhousemuir, contain an extra sprinkle of magic with a poem inside from the three-time bestselling poet.
Susan Bateman, Ward Manager at Strathcarron Hospice, said: “It was heart-warming to receive these cards which have been given to patients, their families and our staff. We would like to say a huge thank you to the Thistles for their continued community support of the Hospice and to Donna for taking the time to visit us and treat the staff to a reading of some of her poetry.
“Christmas can be a very emotional time for those who have experienced the death of a loved one or are facing bereavement. Donna’s poetry is very poignant for us at the Hospice.
Her words resonate at a deep level with our staff and the work we do every day to support and care for people, making every moment count.”
Gary Turnbull, Centre Director at Thistles, said: “This Christmas, we wanted to focus on the power of connection. Through our Christmas card drive, we’re bringing the community together to show kindness and compassion. With the beautiful artwork from Antony and Caris, and Donna Ashworth’s inspiring poem, we hope these cards will bring smiles and warmth to everyone who receives them.”
Donna Ashworth added: “It’s an honour to be part of such a meaningful campaign. Christmas is all about sharing love, and I hope my poem helps to spread joy and remind people that they are thought of and cared for.”
The Thistles Christmas card drive is part of the centre’s ongoing #ThistlesHelps campaign, which aims to support the local community. For more information visit: https://www.thistlesstirling.com/
