Isabella Field has received the Points of Light Award, which recognises outstanding volunteers who are making a change in their community and inspiring others.
Isabella was presented with the award from Tracey Crouch, Minister for Sport and Civil Society, at a reception attended by Haven House Patron Iain Duncan Smith MP marking Giving Tuesday, the annual global day of giving.
In a personal letter to Isabella, Prime Minister Theresa May said:
“By raising over £110,000 in support of Haven House Children’s Hospice in memory of your sister Molly, you have given vital support to hundreds of children with life-limiting conditions and made a real difference in the care they receive. You should feel enormously proud of everything you have achieved, especially at such a young age, and for inspiring thousands of people through your remarkable fundraising.”
Haven House Patron Iain Duncan Smith MP said:
“I am absolutely delighted that Isabella Field has received the Points of Light Award in recognition of her fundraising.”
“She is a wonderful role model for young people in our local area and through Isabella’s fundraising we have been able to support other families with life-limited children.”
Following the reception Isabella and her mum, Mel Field, appeared on ITV’s Loose Women performing ‘We All Stand Together’ with Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus. This song is the 1984 classic hit by Sir Paul McCartney recently released as a charity single by Choirs With Purpose, the group of twelve choirs that includes the UK Hospices Choir made up of patients, families, staff and volunteers supporting 45 hospices across the UK, coordinated by Hospice UK.
Isabella began fundraising for Haven House after her eight-year-old sister Molly died at home from an inoperable brain tumour in September 2010. The morning after Molly passed away Isabella and her parents went to stay at the hospice. Molly was laid to rest in the Butterfly Suite which enabled the family to say their final goodbyes.
Earlier this summer, Isabella was among 20 young people to be recognised with a Diana Award, in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales. In November last year she was named ‘Best Young Fundraiser of the Year’ at the Institute of Fundraising Awards, and the previous year she received the Young Citizen Award by Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland, a year after winning the prize for the London Borough of Redbridge.
