RBC Charity Day for the Kids Raises over £100,000 for Demelza Hospice Care for Children

Categories: Fundraising.

Last month (Tuesday 23 June) RBC Capital Markets hosted its annual RBC Charity Day: a day which united its employees to support children and young people across the globe.

Among the beneficiaries was Demelza Hospice Care for Children, who were invited to attend a special event at company’s London office.

The exhilarating and emotional day was topped with RBC announcing more than US$5 million in donations to support more than 55 charity partners globally – $140,000 (£117,000) of which was donated to Demelza.

Lila Dowie, Demelza’s Head of Corporate Partnerships and Trusts, said: “This is the fourth time Demelza has been a beneficiary of the RBC Charity Day for the Kids and we are so proud and grateful of the long-standing relationship we have with RBC.

“The money raised will play a vital role in supporting Demelza to achieve our new five-year strategy and realising our ambitious objectives – one of which is to reach more children with serious or terminal conditions who desperately need our care and support.”

Before the big reveal, RBC employees heard from Demelza’s CEO Lavinia Jarrett and Harriet, mum to 10-year-old Ethan from East Sussex, about the life-changing impact Demelza has on children with serious or terminal conditional across the south east.

Harriet, said: “Ethan, his nanny, and I had such a wonderful time at RBC’s Charity Day for the Kids. Everyone was so kind and attentive, and it was such a special one-off experience for Ethan. From riding to the event in a private car, to helping make international trades on the phone, he loved being the centre of attention and had a great day all-round.

“We are thrilled that the event raised an incredible £114,000 for Demelza, which will help them continue to provide a vital lifeline to more families like ours. Demelza will always hold a special place in my heart, and RBC’s mammoth support for their services means the absolute world.”

Since launching in 2015, RBC Charity Day for the Kids has provided more than US$20.2 million to 100 youth-focused charities globally.

Derek Neldner, CEO and Group Head, RBC Capital Markets, said: “It’s very important that we continue to give back to these incredibly deserving causes that resonate strongly with all our employees.

“RBC Charity Day for the Kids demonstrates our ongoing commitment to helping our clients thrive and communities prosper by supporting youth and their families. We are grateful for the continued partnerships with the charities, our clients, and our employees for their fantastic support.”

Notes to editors Demelza Hospice Care for Children:

  • Right now, there are almost 90,000 children with terminal conditions in the UK.  And as more children live longer with their conditions, there’s increasingly urgent need to support them and their families.
  • For every parent, the health and happiness of their children is the single most important thing in the world. But the reality is any child could be born with or develop a terminal condition.
  • Demelza provides specialist care and emotional support for children with serious or terminal conditions, whether in family homes across East Sussex or in the family hospices in Sittingbourne and Eltham.  Demelza can help families and their loved ones enjoy their time together, for as long as they have.
  • The unique support we give comes at a price, and at present we’re only reaching 1 in 10 of the children that we could help.
  • As a charity, we’re almost entirely dependent on the generosity of our supporters to provide the funds that keep our services going. Please help us make sure every family and child can depend on us when they need us most.
