Hours of work: 37.5 per week

St Joseph’s Hospice is a charity established in 1905 by the Religious Sisters of Charity to offer patients diagnosed with a life-limiting illness a range of care and professional advisory services. We currently provide high quality palliative and end of life care to the culturally diverse population of people living in East London and beyond. We employ a large team of care staff and volunteers who work across community, in-patient and out-patient services delivering individualised, responsive and holistic support to patients and their families and carers (both adults and children).

The social work and welfare benefits team is a well established and integral part of the holistic care offered to patients at every stage of their illness journey and to their family members during and beyond the patients’ illness. As manager of this service you will be responsible for ensuring the high quality and safe provision of social work and welfare benefits support. In addition you will lead the team as it develops new ways of working in collaboration with the other services which comprise supportive care at St Joseph’s Hospice, including engaging with and building capacity within the communities which the hospice serves.

To undertake this role you will require expertise in the assessment, delivery and management of social work within a palliative care setting and a commitment to joint working and decision making with colleagues from a range of professional backgrounds. Ideally you will have experience of educating others in the psychosocial care of patients and families at the end of life and be demonstrably committed to equitable provision of care. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape the social care of families supported by St Joseph’s Hospice.
