One of the new services focuses on patients with young families, and has so far supported more than 125 people and delivered 250 face-to-face therapeutic sessions. These have included supporting refugee and traveller families.
Over the last three years the hospice has grown its team from a single practitioner to three dedicated roles to be able to deliver this service.
St Margaret’s Clinical Director, Joy Milliken said:
“Care of a family does not stop when a loved one dies. We can offer ongoing professional support and counselling which can play a vital part in the bereavement process, helping someone come to terms with such a life changing event.”
Feedback has shown that this support has resulted in children who have lost a parent become more settled, and more able to talk about how they are feeling and about the person they have lost. Their families have reported the children are less angry, more open at home and more settled at school.
