St Oswald’s Hospice named a Regional Centre for Learning in Transition in the UK

Categories: Care and Education.
This recognition speaks volumes about the outstanding work taking place every day to support young people with life-limiting conditions as they move from childhood to adulthood.

We’ve been named a Regional Centre for Learning alongside three other hospices across the UK, as part of a major national programme led by Hospice UK and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.

As a result, we will receive a share of £1.3 million over the next four years to improve the transition experience for young people.

We will collaborate with the other three hospices – Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice (Scotland), Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People (East Midlands), and Tŷ Hafan (Wales) – to share best practice, engage with a wide range of service providers, and help shape a more compassionate and coordinated national approach to transitional care.

Moving from children’s to adult services can be a daunting time for young people and their families. Helping to make this journey as smooth as possible is incredibly important.

We’ve already made huge strides in this area – from building our Young Adults Accommodation to the research led by Dr Jo Elverson – work that is now receiving national recognition.

The announcement by Hospice UK is a proud moment, not just for those directly involved in supporting young people, but for all of us.
