In October we were delighted to welcome 25 GPs from across the North East and Cumbria to St Oswald’s Hospice for our latest Palliative Care Update.
Led by our expert Consultant team, Dr Jo Brown and Dr Emma Bloom, the bi-annual session explored a wide range of topics, including pain management, end-of-life complexities, steroid use, lymphoedema, advance care planning, and supporting children through bereavement.

This was an important moment for us as a Hospice, showcasing our role as a leading provider of specialist palliative care education in the region. Partnerships with the GP community are especially vital, helping us extend our reach and ensure we can offer the very best palliative and end-of-life care to patients, their families and carers.
Feedback from the event has been glowing, with one GP remarking: “It was gold-dust! I absorbed every single bit of information. More of these events please!”
A huge thank-you to everyone involved in planning and supporting the day – your contribution plays a key role in strengthening these partnerships and sharing our expertise more widely.
