This master class shares the experiences and benefits of a hospice based programme of life-story sharing workshops.
Using simple techniques with minimal or no cost, each series of workshops has enabled participants to recount and record aspects of their life stories and, in turn, to acknowledge the value of their lives and the contribution they have made.
The reaction of participants and their families to this experience has been very positive with people reporting enhanced feelings of wellbeing, happiness and a generally improved quality of life.
The workshops are led by Miranda Quinney, professional storyteller and biographer, and facilitated by Doreen Pattenson, senior social worker at Peace Hospice Care. The value of their work was acknowledged in 2014 when they were finalists for the Ken Holt Storytelling Award at the National Dementia Care Awards
