Belinda Marks, an Advanced Clinical Practitioner at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, has been celebrated at prestigious awards held by national healthcare and bereavement charity, Sue Ryder.

Belinda’s commitment to looking at new ways of delivering care and reaching new groups of people secured her the Innovation and Change Award, as well as the Overall Winner at the charity’s VIP awards.

Belinda was shortlisted from a pool of over 500 nominations, and although she could not attend the ceremony, Belinda received her award from Chief Operating Officer Alan Bowers in a special presentation at the hospice.

When receiving the award, Belinda said: “What an honour to receive this award. I am so passionate about patient care and ensuring I provide great care to patients and their families. I would like to thank all my colleagues at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice for being such an amazing team and supporting me.”

Sarah Bottomley, Service Director at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, said:

“Belinda’s innovative approach has significantly expanded the reach of Sue Ryder’s palliative care services in West Yorkshire.

She has introduced nurse-led beds within the inpatient unit, allowing more patients in the community to access the care they need.

Her efforts have also meant that people who wish to spend their final moments in the hospice can do so, even if they do not require medical or specialist palliative care.

“Her influence has also been shown by the development of clinical practice, education, research, and leadership within her team. Belinda is committed to reaching historically underserved populations, building connections with mental health and homelessness teams to enhance access to palliative care services. Her visits to these teams and service users have helped to increase understanding of what we do, helping to make our services easier to access. Well done Belinda!”

A colleague praises Belinda’s impact, saying: “She is so supportive and an inspirational leader to the team. She has made a big difference to our practice, knowledge, and motivation.”

Other colleagues at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice were also recognised at the awards. Rhea Nicholson, Speciality Doctor, won the Rising Star award, the popular Zip the Cow event received Highly Commended for Project of the Year, and Fundraising Volunteer, David Senior, was shortlisted for the Everyday Hero award.
