Tell Us Once: a service to help people who have been bereaved

Categories: Care.

Tell Us Once is offered by local authorities at the point when the death is registered. The process can either be completed during the registration, online or by a free telephone number.

The service is voluntary for both local authorities and customers and 89% of local authorities in the UK are already delivering it with more to come on board. This means that it is now available to around 52 million people.

When someone uses Tell Us Once, the services notified will include:

  • DWP Pensions and Benefits
  • Personal Tax
  • Council Tax
  • Passport
  • Driving Licence
  • Blue Badge
  • Electoral Register

To check if your local authority offers the service please go to www.gov.uk/tell-us-once and use the postcode search facility.

A million customers have already used the service and over 70,000 of them have used the online channel. A recent customer survey showed that 97% of customers felt their overall experience of the service was good. Comments received included “excellent service” and “very helpful and very kind”. 98% were willing to recommend the service to others suffering a bereavement, which is a testament to the value that customers see in the service.

A new flyer is available to let people know what the service offers and how to access it. To be sent a supply of this flyer, or for further information, please contact tellusonce.communications@dwp.gsi.gov.uk
