The Myton Hospices achieves CPD accreditation for specialist end of life training

Categories: Education.

The Myton Hospices has achieved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accreditation for two of its specialist education courses, recognising the high standard of training it provides to healthcare professionals across Coventry and Warwickshire and beyond.

The charity’s Dementia at End of Life and Essentials of End of Life Care courses have both been independently accredited by the CPD Certification Service.

The Dementia at End of Life course explores the challenges people living with dementia can face when accessing end of life care. It helps learners recognise deterioration, identify the signs and symptoms of the final stages of life, manage symptoms effectively and understand how to access local services and support.

The Essentials of End of Life Care course equips healthcare professionals, social care providers and care home staff with the knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver safe, compassionate care for people approaching the end of life, while also supporting those closest to them.

The accreditation reflects The Myton Hospices’ commitment to improving access to high-quality palliative and end of life care by sharing its specialist expertise with professionals working across health and social care. Through education, the charity is helping to build the confidence and skills needed to deliver compassionate care wherever people need it.

Emma Charles, Clinical Education Lead at The Myton Hospices, said:

“We are incredibly proud that these courses have achieved CPD accreditation. It is a fantastic recognition of the quality of the education we provide and gives learners confidence that our training has been independently assessed and meets recognised professional standards.

“We know that not everyone who could benefit from hospice care is able to receive it, whether that’s through personal choice or because of barriers to accessing specialist services. That’s why it is so important that professionals working across health and social care have the skills and confidence to provide excellent end of life care wherever it is needed.

“By sharing our specialist expertise through these accredited courses, we can help ensure more people living with life-limiting illnesses receive the compassionate care and support they deserve. Ultimately, our aim is to make sure no one has to face the end of life without access to expert care.”

At The Myton Hospices we believe that everyone matters for every single moment of their life; we focus on enhancing life when cure is no longer an option. We are not just about end of life care, we support patients and their loved ones right from the moment they are diagnosed.

We have three hospices in Coventry, Rugby and Warwick, and we care for people aged 18+ living with a wide range of life-limiting illnesses including Respiratory, Heart & Neurological conditions, Cancer and Organ failure.

At Myton, demand for our Inpatient Units has increased by 11% in the last 12 months, and too many people are dying on the waiting list for this vital service. As the only provider of Hospice Inpatient Beds in Coventry and Warwickshire, we are acutely aware of the need for more, but are limited in what we can provide due to funding constraints.

It costs over £15 million every year to provide our services free of charge to our patients and their loved ones. As a charity, with less than 20% of our funding coming from the NHS, we must raise more than £12 million this year. We rely on donations and support from our local communities.
