The Myton Hospices provides bereavement training to National Trust staff and volunteers

Categories: Education.

As part of an ongoing partnership with the National Trust, The Myton Hospices have provided bereavement training to Coughton Court’s staff members ahead of their collaborative Dying Matters Awareness Week activities between Monday 6th May and Sunday 12th May.

Delivered by Myton’s Counselling, Bereavement and Family Support Service Lead, Debbie Frost, and Counsellor, Guy Graham, the sessions aim to ensure staff members at Coughton Court are equipped with essential skills and knowledge to effectively support individuals who may be experiencing varied emotions following a bereavement. Staff members gained an insight into the dynamics of grief, different communication strategies and practical approaches to providing empathetic support.

With shared Dying Matters Week activities, and an exciting in memory campaign launching next month, it is important that property staff are prepared to navigate sensitive situations with compassion and provide their volunteers with the support they may need when facing conversations about death and dying.

Debbie Frost, Counselling, Bereavement and Family Support Service Lead, commented:

“I was impressed by the commitment, engagement and passion shown by the staff at Coughton Court, showcasing so much care for their visitors and stakeholders. I am pleased we were able to offer our expertise and knowledge to further support the team in their upcoming events.”

Myton’s Community Engagement Manager will be at Coughton Court, National Trust property, to join them with their Dying Matters Awareness Week activities, on Friday 10th May from 12pm – 4pm. Olivia will be available to chat, answer questions and provide a deeper insight into the work of The Myton Hospices.

At The Myton Hospices we believe that everyone matters for every single moment of their life; we focus on enhancing life when cure is no longer an option. We are not just about end of life care, we support patients and their loved ones right from the moment they are diagnosed.

We have three hospices in Coventry, Rugby and Warwick, and have the only Hospice Inpatient beds in Coventry and Warwickshire. We care for people aged 18+ living with a wide range of life-limiting illnesses including Respiratory, Heart & Neurological conditions, Cancer and Organ failure.

We are a charity and we have to raise £11 million of the £14.3 million we need this year to continue providing our services free of charge. Just 20% of our funding comes from the NHS. We rely on donations and support from our local communities.
