Together for Short Lives launches #HereForThe49000 campaign

Categories: Community Engagement.

The charity, which advocates for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families, will be sharing a new range of infographics across social media from today.

Using #HereForThe49000 – which is the number of seriously ill children in the UK with health conditions that mean they may die young – it is hoped that the campaign will raise awareness of the challenges faced by these children and their families.

The infographics aim to illustrate the number of children who live with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions – the figure of 49,000 is equivalent to one in every 270 children, or one child for every school across the UK.

Together for Short Lives has also estimated the wider impact of these conditions, stating that 100,000 parents, 50,000 siblings and 200,000 other members of families are affected. That brings the total number affected to 399,000.

The charity is encouraging its supporters to share the infographics and help spread awareness using #HereForThe49000. The images will be shared on Together for Short Lives’ Facebook and Twitter pages.

The campaign coincides with Hospice Care Week, which starts today. Hospices throughout the UK are looking to raise awareness about the ways in which they connect with local communities, in line with the theme of the week, ‘Connecting Care’.
