St Ann’s Hospice in Manchester provides care and support to people living with or affected by life-limiting illnesses. Care is provided on three sites and in people’s homes, working in partnership with acute hospitals, clinical commissioning groups, community services and voluntary organisations. St Ann’s Hospice was founded in 1971 and is one of the oldest hospices in the country.

We are aiming to broaden the experience of the Council of Trustees as we continue to develop our links externally and strengthen our finances. We are looking for individuals with senior management or Board experience in one or more of the following:

  • retail 
  • fundraising
  • primary care, community care or adult social care; clinical background preferably
  • commissioning of healthcare 
  • general commercial / business experience

The primary responsibility of Trustees is to provide the Hospice with strategic leadership and maintain good governance to ensure it is well managed and administered, and resources are used appropriately. Trustees attend and contribute to the main Council meetings held five times a year. In addition there is Trustee representation on Hospice committees, e.g. Income generation Committee and at fundraising and other external events.

Trustees must be able to demonstrate a range of competencies at a senior management or board level and specifically:

  • a commitment to the Hospice and its objectives 
  • an understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and liabilities of being a trustee 
  • a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a trustee 
  • ability to think and apply knowledge strategically 
  • ability to analyse and evaluate management information
  • ability to influence and engage
  • a willing to express their own opinion in a reasoned way, while also listening to the views of others
  • ability to challenge constructively and ask questions appropriately
  • an ability to work effectively as a member of a team
