Before the Covid-19 pandemic, there were inherent challenges to successfully providing care to adults with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Doing so during the pandemic has required an uncharted response. Implementing infection prevention strategies to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is especially challenging in dedicated memory care units where residents with cognitive impairment reside together. Changes to routines, disruptions in daily schedules and use of PPE can lead to fear, anxiety and behavioral changes. Family members report being isolated from their loved ones.

In response to these and other challenges, the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center of Cape Cod will present “Managing Dementia Care in the Time of COVID-19,” a FREE live videoconference featuring nationally known dementia specialist, Teepa Snow, who will provide practical hands-on training for addressing many of these challenges. This free conference will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.

Topics will include:

  • Patient-Based Infection Control
  • Engagement and Activity Modifications for Infection Control
  • Effects of Social Isolation on Those Living with Dementia
  • Communication and Connection Strategies While Using PPE
  • Tips for Connecting via Phone and Video Chat
  • Ideas for Engagement and Activity Options in the Home Setting.

Teepa Snow is one of the top dementia trainers in the country and delivers an inspiring and compelling program that is highly effective for increasing hands-on skills and awareness.

This conference is geared towards those working in long term care, memory care, adult day health programs, as well as family and in-home caregivers. It has been approved for 6.0 CEs for nurses, social workers, and mental health professionals at no cost. CEs for activity directors are pending.
