Palliative Care staff learning French at Hospice Africa Uganda

Categories: Education.

A dozen staff members from APCA and HAU have volunteered their time to improve their French speaking skills in order to further their ability to deliver palliative care across Africa.

Approximately 120 million people speak French in Africa spread across 24 francophone countries. Africa is the continent with the most French speakers in the world.

Reflecting this, Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU) and the African Palliative Care Association (APCA) have for a long time been working to extend their work into francophone countries. HAU for example has now held a series of 5 week Francophone Initiators Courses.

One of the participants of the course, Pamela Kalema, a Programme Officer at APCA, commented, “These lessons will help me to communicate with our partners and grantees in Togo and Cameroon. It will also mean that it will that APCA will be able to reach out more easily to other francophone countries.”

Everyone at ehospice wishes them ‘bonne chance’.
