Topics will explore the role of singing in care in the areas of dementia, palliative care, Parkinson’s disease, stroke rehabilitation, special needs, and community health and wellness.
Inuit singer and songwriter Susan Aglukark will be the keynote performer. Presenters include experts in singing across the care spectrum, including Dr. Carey Andrew-Jaja who welcomes new babies with song in the delivery room.
The Laurier Centre for Music in the Community (LCMC) and Canadian charity Room 217 Foundation are sponsors of the one-day event. The LCMC is also a founding partner of the Music Care Conference. Singing will play a large role in the day’s events.
“Singing is a significant part of the conference, so participants experience singing in a way that contributes to body, mind and spirit care. They can take the knowledge back to their communities and advance how singing is used where they live work and serve,” said Bev Foster, executive director of Room 217.
