CPIM plan to train and place 50,000 volunteers in palliative care over the next few months, effectively doubling the number of trained community palliative care volunteers in Kerala.
“The entry of political activists to palliative care is only a logical development in meaningful community participation especially since there have been consistent efforts to include local politicians in training programs and home care activities,” says Dr Suresh Kumar, Director of the Institute of Palliative Medicine (WHO Collaborating Centre for Community Participation in Palliative Care and Long Term Care).
Dr Kumar welcomes the blurring of the boundaries between social activism and political activism that has come as a result of CPIM’s action.
